First week of school finished

Today was Day 2 of my Biology class. My professor quickly skimmed over most of Chapter 1, and threw about 10 unrelated conversations into the lecture. So, I left class somewhat confused. She covered the content rather quickly, and got off track A LOT. I guess I’ll have to read my book about 10 times for this stuff to sink in. :blank:

I was proud of myself today. Even though I didn’t have to be in class into 1:40pm, I got up at 9:30am, and got an early start out the door. I went by the bank, to the gym to cancel my membership (I haven’t been in almost a year, though I was continuing to pay for it *facepalm*), got gas, and dropped a letter off at the post office before heading to the college, where I was 20 minutes early for class. Most people who know me well know I usually start getting ready to go at the last minute, giving myself just enough time to get to where I am going. Today was different, and hopefully, it will be a start to changing my procrastinating ways! :D

James has his second Jiu Jitsu (think martial arts) class tonight. It’s something he’s been talking about for a couple of weeks now, so I signed him up for a couple of free classes. It’s has a somewhat expensive monthly fee, but if it’s something he wants to learn, I’m all for it. He’s not one to spend too much money on himself, though, which is why I set up the classes, and I am sure I will have to force him to enroll, no matter how much he already wants to.

I’ve been away

I have so not been interested in getting on the Internet the past few days. Luckily, I have no pressing writing assignments. This weekend, it was nice to be away from my laptop. Saturday, James and I played the Wii for about 6 hours straight…It’s been a LONG time since I have played video games that much. We downloaded a couple of the Wii Ware games. The “Major League Eating” game is so addicting. It’s like those big eating contests you see on ESPN. You have to watch your vomit meter, throw food in your mouth, and chew all at the same time.

School started yesterday. The day went very smoothly. My first class is First Aid/CPR/Cardio Fitness…yeah, all three rolled into one. It only meets on Mondays for 2 hours and 40 minutes each session. Half of the time will be spent learning First Aid and CPR, and the other half will consist of working out in the college’s fitness center or walking the trail. Yesterday the class was only an hour long, which widened the gap I have between classes. It was supposed to end at 12:05, which gives me about an hour and a half to grab some lunch before my Biology class at 1:40. I had time yesterday to eat, read, and do some browsing online.

My Biology class is the one that scares me. I failed Biology back in 2005, but this time it’s a different teacher. She seems very nice and enthusiastic about teaching. I know two people who have had her as a teacher and they each made a “B” in her “Human Biology” class. This is “Introduction to Biology,” but hopefully this time it goes better for me. This class is only an hour and 15 minutes (Thank goodness!)

Since I have been staying away from the Internet, I have gotten lots of reading done. I’ve spent a little bit of time updating my GoodReads.com account, and now have about 35 books in my “To Read” shelf. About 75% of the books are not in my local library, but I found a website online that I can rent books from called booksfree.com. It’s similar to Netflix, only you rent books instead of movies. It would definitely be cheaper than me buying the books I cannot find at the library.

In the past week, I have finished Jodi Picoult’s “My Sister’s Keeper” and “The Tenth Circle.” I enjoyed each, but “My Sister’s Keeper” was my favorite of the two. It takes a VERY unexpected turn at the end. Both were books I could not put down once I started reading them. I finished “The Tenth Circle” in less than 48 hours! I also read Nora Roberts’ “Brazen Virtue.” It’s one of her older novels (from the 80’s), and it seemed less detailed and descriptive as her newer works. I went to the library yesterday to return those three books, and got 3 more. I just started “Tribute,” a book that just came out this year by Nora Roberts. I also got her “Angel’s Fall” and Jodi Picoult’s “Vanishing Act.”

I am going to have to split my time between reading my textbooks and reading my library books, but I don’t mind. I can’t wait to finish these three. Once I do, I am probably going to join the book renting website so I can start getting the others on my list. The nicest thing about that is no more trips to the library!

Our home improvement list

James and I have been thinking about all the renovations we still want to do on the house. We are still wanting to paint the guest bath, put down new flooring in both baths, put down new flooring in the living room and hall way, and work on the pool. Doing this stuff isn’t going to be cheap. We have to decide priorities, and do what we can. I don’t want to live here forever, so I don’t want to put tons of money into the house. I’m thinking, instead, we could just get us a flat screen TV and a plasma tv mount to hang it on the wall. It’d be cheaper than the home improvement list we have going, and it’s something we can take with us when we leave this house! :)

Acne Writing

I recently finished doing a writing assignment about acne and the best ways to treat the disorder. One thing I like about freelance writing is I learn so much through the various subjects I have to write about. I was too familiar with acne and the best natural acne treatment, but now I know how to better care for my skin through the research I did for the project. While I was writing the articles, my client ask me if I could write about prostate cancer. That’s something else I am too not familiar with, but I’d give it a shot!
